HABIT OF THE MONTH

Although the Nine Habits to a Well-Rounded Individual were created for the Lets Talk with Miss Neka TV Show. They are also aspects that everyone must work on constantly.

We challenge you and your family to discuss the habit of the month; find your positives and the things you could work on more. Take a piece of paper and right down your goals for that particular habit. Then, re-visit your list throughout the month to be sure you are on a positive path.

This Month Habit: Social Butterfly
Definition: Spend time with friends in a well-balanced way. Surround yourself with positive individuals who have positive goals in life; and most importantly like you for who you are.

It is important for everyone to have friends. Many adults will tell you that you are lucky if you can count your friends on one hand. As one gets older, your friend count gets lower.

Why is that? There are actually several reasons why we have less friends as we get older. The most simple one is: The older you are, the more you know what kind of people you want to be around.

This is a good chance to ask your parents or discuss with your kids the value of friendship. Many youth feel having a good friend is someone who is fun to hang out with or popular in school. This is the furthest from the truth. It usually boils down to who you can trust, and most important who is there for you during your bad times!

Although many adults only have a couple of friends, that is usually all we want or have time for. However, for my youth, friends are important for several reasons.

Everyone should experience the small things that having a group of friends brings while growing up. For example: Slumber parties, shopping, going to dances and gossiping on the phone.

Having multiple friends also helps you learn about different people, cultures and personalities. This is very very important, because as you grow up, you will have to work with all types of people. The more you know and understand about different personalities and cultures; the better you are.

The most important thing to remember when choosing your friends; is to pick positive individuals with positive goals in mind. It is so easy to get caught in the wrong place, at the wrong time, doing the wrong thing. Many of those unpleasant situations can be avoided by just hangin' around the right type of people.

Whoever you decide to spend your time with, be sure you respect them and they respect you. Do unto them as you want people to do unto you. Be someone's friend because you enjoy them as a person and vice versa.

Good friends are hard to find, so when you find one, be sure you are being a good friend back.
